We started off in Jaipur at our hotel, the lovely Samode Haveli – parts of which are still occupied by the descendants of the rulers of Samode. This is the entrance to our room. The common areas are magnificent and relaxing especially in contrast to the bustle of Jaipur – right outside the walls of our hotel!

I’m amazed we actually went sightseeing in Jaipur – one could easily have spent hours in the hotel!

First stop outside of the hotel was a kulfi stop for a creamy delicious frozen delight.
The kulfi vendor was right outside the gates of the city palace.

For information on the palace and the royal family click on http://msmsmuseum.com/index.php
The detail in this palace is spectacular!
On the street one passes the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) built in 1799 where the women of the Royal family could observe what was happening on the streets of Jaipur without themselves being seen.
Just outside of Jaipur is the Rajput capital Amber. Another magnificent fort/palace.
The thought that went into the design of this palace was amazing. For example the honeycomb design of this window (incidentally made out of one piece of marble) was designed to provide natural air conditioning (which seemed to work)!
Just as fun was watching the other tourists – ones got to love selfie sticks!

We would highly recommend a visit.

That’s Mahendra Sharma, our Jaipur guide with Janyce. Janyce had tea while Bill was comped beers which likely explains the fact that Bill bought a large carpet and lots more clothing than Janyce did! We did have a lot of fun with no regrets. We were there in the afternoon and my made to order slacks and linen shirts were delivered to our hotel room that evening.
That evening we joined a local family to enjoy a cooking lesson and indulge in some excellent indian cuisine. Delightful to say the least.
I love Lassi.

Janyce did buy three pairs of shoes. I still regret not buying these!
We hope to be back someday …. on to Udaipur!
