This is day one and we are going to try (emphasis on try) this trip to blog as we go along (as opposed to a year later). We arrived last night – it was a Wednesday night but the city was in action and we went out for a walk. We are staying at the Hotel Rembrandt in the historic district. The area around is packed with bars and restaurants, stately buildings and cobbled streets and is full of people ….. 24 hours a day – we sensed a lag (listening from our hotel room from about 5-6am). We clearly went to sleep before most of the action occurred
The room was spacious – original wood floors, large window overlooking the roof of the Bank of Romania

Bucharest in Romanian means “City of the Joy” – you can see that in both of our eyes!

This restaurant is called “Carul cu Bere”– a famous Bavarian style restaurant, built in 1879. It is said that famous men of poets, actors and aristocrats met here. We enjoyed traditional Romanian cuisine here…meatballs, deep-fried cheese balls and beer. Delicious!
